Hazards of Television-Watching for Kids

Recently, an incident in the newspapers shocked the conscience of all parents. Some children tried to imitate the stunts shown on television and embraced their death. It has given birth to a debate. Should such stunts be shown on television ? What are the hazards of television-watching for kids ? And finally, does the 'idiot box' provide healthy and meaningful programmes for children ?
Children are very sensitive. They are very tender. They are of impressionable nature and age. Whatever they read in books or watch on television gets imprinted in their minds. They have natural flair for heroics. Adventures thrill them. Sensational programmes on television fire their imagination. Programmes like 'Superman' and 'Shaktiman' tempt them to imitate the heroics and stunts they are only playing with their lives.
Parents and teachers have a great responsibility. They should not allow the children of tender age to watch horror films, stunts or such undesirable programmes on television. Only healthy entertainment can keep the minds and morals of our children healthy.
