Television has both merits and demerits. As for merits, it brings us latest news round the worlds. It also educate us. Through advertisements, it increases our knowledge about our rights as consumers. The important benefits of TV is that it entertains us and increases our IQ's. But it has its ill-effects also. For example, it affects our eyesight. TV is harmful for school children. They shirk homework. They lag behind in education. Secondly, it makes us hard to human emotions through violence in films. Foreign TV networks has harmful effects. The 'culture' shown on this network is different from our social values. Vulgar scenes, naked-ness, vulgar dances etc. lead our young minds astray. Our age-old human values are now disappearing. We are no more sensitive to our values towards our brethren, parents etc. Social values are getting eroded. All these are ill-effects of television. In a way, Television is a necessary evil.
